Trail Overview

Branch Road Trail is an adventurous and fun bidirectional seasonal road within the Traverse City Forest Management Unit. Located only a mile off Highway US-131, this trail is easily accessible. Starting from the SE end, you'll start on a smooth, gravelly, sandy dirt road that leads into the forest. The forest is abundant with thriving plant life that's worth checking out. 2.3 miles into the trail, you'll come across Taylor Creek, which runs under the trail. This is a great local fishing spot. Shortly after the 2.4-mile marker, you'll find a spur trail with a fun sandy scramble area. Please TREAD LIGHTLY so future generations can enjoy these public spaces. ORVs are not permitted on this trail. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle, with limited places to pass. This is not a difficult trail at all, but it contains a lot of fun and beauty, and gives access to other great trails nearby. The Northeast end of the trail finishes at SFR 442142 Trail. This is a fantastic route to explore with a lot of fun to be had! As always, again, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails!

Difficulty

This was only given a Technical Rating & Difficulty of 2 due to the trail typically only being wide enough for one to two vehicles. Otherwise, this trail could be rated as a 1.
