Trail Overview
The Ambrose Lake to Rose City Trail is a moderate ORV trail that provides a direct, off-road connection between the Ambrose Lake area and the city of Rose City in Roscommon County. It's designed for riders who want a true trail experience rather than road-based travel, with terrain that reflects classic northern Lower Peninsula riding. The trail runs through forested terrain on a narrow corridor with predominantly sand and dirt surfaces, along with occasional muddy sections in low-lying areas after rain. Difficulty is driven by deep or loose sand, changing traction, and limited sight lines rather than technical obstacles. Use is limited to ATVs and motorcycles that meet Michigan ORV registration and equipment requirements and full-size vehicles are not permitted. Riders should expect wildlife crossings, the possibility of downed trees or trail debris depending on maintenance, and unreliable cellular coverage. Access is managed by the Michigan DNR, with seasonal closures or temporary restrictions possible during spring thaw, heavy rain, or scheduled trail work.

Difficulty
The trail is 50" trail that's wide enough for a 50" SXS. There is some elevation change to the north with a few long uphills that are sandy that may be slightly challenging for beginners. Overall this is a very fun trail for beginners to experts
