Trail Overview

This trail drops down to the Arkansas River sandbar and should be approached with serious caution. As you reach the riverside, the exit hills are extremely steep, forcing your vehicle into a near-vertical climb when attempting to leave the sandbar. The combination of loose sand and mud at the base makes maintaining traction difficult, especially after recent rain or fluctuating water levels. Due to these challenging conditions, this trail is not recommended for lightly equipped vehicles. High horsepower, aggressive tires, lockers, and solid recovery gear may be necessary to make the ascent safely. This route is best suited for experienced drivers prepared for a demanding climb out.

Difficulty

This trail is challenging due to the extremely steep river exit and loose sand or mud at the base. Climbing back out requires strong traction, high horsepower, and proper equipment. Not recommended for stock vehicles or inexperienced drivers.

Outside the park, Mulvane offers a few nearby options for food, fuel, and day-trip breaks. The town has small diners, local gas stations, and grocery stops for supplies. Families can visit the Mulvane Historical Museum or stop by the Kansas Star Casino just a short drive away for dining and entertainment. For those wanting extra outdoor time, the Arkansas River access points nearby offer fishing and quiet spots to relax after a day on the trails.
