Trail Overview

Petterson Canyon #5232 is an easy ATV trail that begins at the intersection with trails #5225 and #5226 and travels east, initially crossing a large open field used for cattle grazing. Although the track is not visible through the field, you can clearly see the re-entry point into the forest across the field. The trail continues as a dry, dusty two-track winding gently through pine and aspen groves, with bits of small loose rock. The trail is pretty split-lined with cow trails through here that weave through the trees, but you can still follow the wider two-track pretty easily. The path then goes along the edge of the trees and sagebrush-covered hillsides, with a short climb leading up to a water trough. The final stretch descends on a slightly steeper grade through a tighter forest corridor, with ruts, roots, and loose rock. The trail ends at a gate marking the edge of private property, where riders may continue through to connect with Wolf Mountain Road. Please respect all private land boundaries along this route.

Difficulty

This is an easy trail due to its gradual elevation changes, wide two-track layout, and minor surface features such as roots and rocks. Slightly steeper sections and tighter terrain on the east end make it slightly more challenging.
