Trail Overview

Hess Park #3598 is an intermediate 1.3-mile ATV trail that begins at the end of Forest Service Road 30197, just beyond a swampy pond, and travels west to connect with trail #5211, an easier trail that takes you to the Summit View Campground. Though relatively short, it serves as an important connector between the ATV trails accessed off of Diamond Creek Road and the ATV trails accessed off of Slug Creek Road. The route includes several steep climbs and descents that are full of loose rock on top of loose dirt, making it hard to maintain traction on the climb and not get pinged around on the descent. There are also larger embedded rocks on the steep slopes, adding to the challenge as well. The west end also features off-camber stretches that could feel pretty tippy on a quad. ATV riders will really have to lean their weight to not get too tippy. The trail mostly descends when traveled from east to west, with its rougher terrain concentrated in these steeper sections.
