Trail Overview
Grand Prize (FS 7112) is an 11.7-mile trail in the Sawtooth National Forest, about an hour north of Ketchum, Idaho. It begins at the Grand Prize Trailhead on FS 7259 and runs east and northeast to the Bowery Trailhead. The route climbs about 1,000 feet in its first fifth before descending roughly 2,200 feet over the remaining miles. The track is mostly hard-packed dirt with a thin layer of loose dust and small sections of gravel. There's one shallow, one-foot-deep water crossing, but otherwise few obstacles. The trail starts with a steep, punchy climb out of the parking area before leveling into a wooded valley. The first half stays shaded with tighter lines, while the second half opens into wider fields and offers sweeping views of the valley below. Grand Prize delivers a mix of effort and flow with rewarding downhill stretches toward Bowery.
