Trail Overview

Fishhook-Gold Center USFS #301 from near Avery to Homestead Creek is a frequently used, well-maintained gravel road into the St. Joe National Forest. This road accesses many privately owned parcels and logging is the main occupation of the area. The roadway is good, though it can be narrow and winding through the canyon, so be prepared for oncoming traffic. There is a tunnel that cuts through a mountain on this route and deer, elk, bear, and grouse are prevalent. There is no cell phone service or bathrooms on this route. There are occasional pullouts where you can camp along the roadway. For current conditions call the St. Joe Ranger District at 208-245-2531.
