Trail Overview

Looking to check out the entire Rathdrum Prairie area? This is a great, scenic route featuring excellent views of the towns of Coeur d'Alene, Hayden, Athol, Rathdrum, and out to Post Falls. You also are treated to excellent vistas of Hayden Lake and the surrounding mountains. If you're new to the area or just visiting this is an excellent route to check out the beautiful north Idaho backcountry here in Kootenai County. The potential for wildlife viewing is abundant as well. It's easy to see whitetail deer, elk, moose, black bear, eagles, turkey, and osprey here. The majority of the route is standard Forest Service roads and logging roads with numerous pullouts and the ability to pass oncoming traffic with ease. Please remember to "Ride Right" around corners as there is a lot of traffic - 4WD, ATV, SUVs, Motorcycles, and Horses that enjoy our local forest areas. This route is easily run in either direction. Entering from Hayden Creek uses FS437 (Hayden Creek Road) to FS206 (Burnt Cabin Road) to Burnt Cabin Saddle. From there take FS406 (Hayden Lake Divide Road) to FS1530 (Sage Creek Saddle Road) up to Sage Creek Saddle. At the saddle jump back onto FS406 (Hayden Lake Divide Road) to Cedar Saddle. At Cedar Saddle take FS1552 (Hollister Mountain Road) back to FS206 (Burnt Cabin Road). FS206 will take you to Ohio Match Road which will come out to Highway 95.
