Trail Overview
This is a fun loop in the Bitterroot Range of the Salmon/Challis National Forest. For the first 10 miles, you'll ride an easy Forest Service road that takes you to the trailhead for Butcher Knife Ridge Trail. The trail is fun and flowing as it climbs to the divide trail. As you go along Butcher Knife ridge, you'll ride along the fire line that was cut during the 2012 Mustang fire. Take the divide trail to the right, which continues the fun, flowy trail. This area went through a large fire in 2012, so be prepared for downfall on the trail. The divide trail continues for many miles, but this loop takes Ditch Creek trail to the right, then another right on Ax Park Cutoff to Hughes Creek. Then a short road and highway to complete the loop. Overall, this is a great trail without a lot of traffic. Be prepared to deal with downfall throughout.
Difficulty
No big obstacles to deal with. A few parts with a steep climb, but nothing too difficult.
