Trail Overview
The Pinhoti Horse Alternative has a northern section and a southern section, making a loop with Blackwell Gap. The northern section stays very gradual and mostly flat the entire way. It starts out with a wide section, but begins to narrow as you go. In the spring, expect huge mud puddles and deep ruts throughout, making it a bit messy in spots. The trail has big water bars installed to prevent erosion, which create huge rollers that you can jump off if you're carrying some speed. There's also a tiny stream crossing along the way. Keep an eye out for downed trees or branches across the trail, and small trees hanging low just overhead in a few spots. The southern section is similar but even easier. It goes past a stream crossing and a couple of ponds near the intersection with Blackwell Gap.
