History
Bush Head Shoals Access Park, formerly known as Sope Creek Park, has deep historical roots tied to both the natural landscape and the region's industrial past. The land was originally used by the Cherokee and Creek tribes for hunting and farming, with Sope Creek named in honor of a Cherokee individual. In the decades that followed, the creek became a vital power source for local industries, including a paper mill that operated for over fifty years and was rebuilt after being destroyed during the Civil War. Established in 1978, the park was created to preserve the area's rich heritage and natural beauty amid growing suburban development.
