Trail Overview

Tuckers Grade starts at the Babcock-Webb Wildlife Management Area (WMA), then transitions to a two-lane wide compacted lime rock road after passing the shooting ranges. The two-lane wide road continues to approximately Seaboard Grade. After Seaboard, there is a separate entry gate that is locked when vehicle access is closed. The trail is typically closed to vehicle access, with the exception of periods open to hunting. Check with the Babcock-Webb Wildlife Management Area (WMA) brochure found on the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission website. Each year, the season dates may change. There is a day-use permit fee of $3 per person or $6 per vehicle for daily use. Some exceptions may apply to those who hold a current WMA Permit from FWC. Check with FWC and download the specific WMA regulations posted on their website. All visitors are required to check in at the "Check Station", which is an iron post next to an information board located on the south side of Tucker's Grade. During hunting seasons, visitors may also need to check in with the staff at the hunter check station and show the day-use permit before being granted further access to the WMA. ** The Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission limits access to only named and numbered trails due to severe impacts of Off-Road Vehicle/Off-Highway Vehicles (ORV/OHV) and related environmental damages. Remember to tread lightly and to remain on only named or numbered roads/trails.** The trail can be driven by most 2WD vehicles and ORV/OHV, motorcycles, and street legal vehicles are allowed when gates are open and signs are not posted prohibiting access or the area is closed. Due to water crossings on this trail, a low-clearance vehicle is not recommended. Tuckers Grade after Seaboard Grade narrows to mostly one vehicle wide, having ledges dropping off the elevated trail. The trail is a mix of compacted rock and dirt. The trail can be rutted and have numerous potholes. Several water crossings will be encountered on this trail. These water crossings can be in excess of 12" depth at certain times. Other obstacles, such as fallen trees/branches up to 12," may be encountered. Special note that during hunting seasons, the trail may be congested with hunters and the public accessing this part of the WMA. Other obstacles can be wildlife and cattle. This area is an active cattle ranching operation, and cattle freely roam the area. Wildlife and cattle can suddenly appear on the trail or pose potential obstacles in navigating around due to the narrow and ledged trail. This is a nice leisurely trail for those wanting the opportunity to view Florida wildlife (e.g., Alligators, Whitetail Deer, Wild Hogs, coyotes, Bobcats, Bald Eagles, etc.) or cattle along this trail. There are several picturesque ponds just off the trail that provide great fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities. Many lakes, ponds, and canals provide great freshwater fishing opportunities.
