Trail Overview

This trail is located within Osceola National Forest and the Osceola Wildlife Management Area. The trail is open to public access year-round unless otherwise posted. This trail may be ridden by registered motor vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, recreational off-highway vehicles (side-by-sides), and unlicensed or unregistered motorcycles. Vehicles are only allowed on named and numbered trails. There are select areas where county-owned and maintained roads prohibit the use of OHV's, ATV's and unregistered/non-licensed motorcycles on the right of ways. These areas are well posted on the shoulders of the roadways. This is the only National Forest that offers fee-free, no-permit-required access year-round. The trail leads to Hogpen Landing and Hogpen Campground. The trailhead is located a short distance off County Road 250 down FR 241. FR 241 was previously reviewed and rated by other Trail Guides as a more challenging trail. This trail (FR 241-A) is a two-vehicle wide sand and dirt trail. Recent grading of the trail has been completed, leaving it with gentle, easy grades. Only minor wheel ruts and minor whoops were noted on the trail. It is easy to see where during the rainy season, the trail could be soft, muddy, and have deeper water crossings. This is a nice loop trail that leads out to Hogpen Landing fishing and boat launch, as well as cutting through the Hogpen Campground. Outside of the rainy season, this trail could be safe for most 2WD vehicles. Although getting here from the main trail of FR-241 may warrant high clearance or 4WD at select times of year. Following rain or storm events, this trail may go unmaintained.
