Trail Overview
The South Road is one of the few dirt roads in the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area. The trail starts at Rattlesnake Camp Road and gives you access to several hiking trails, a picnic area at the end of the trail, and a boardwalk that leads to one of the two caves for scuba divers. The trail is a sand forestry road with some soft sand spots that can turn into mud holes after heavy rain, and three low water crossings. The road is not always wide enough for two vehicles to pass. All vehicles must be street legal. The Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area offers a variety of activities: hunting, hiking, biking, bird and wildlife watching. Two caves are accessible for experienced and licensed scuba divers. A daily-use or recreational permit is required to enter the WMA.
