Trail Overview

This is a short, but very fun trail for all OHVs up the back of South Shale Ridge. Start with an easy climb, then drop down to Dry Fork. There are great lookout spots and option to connect to Dry Fork trail, as well as the loop to Hunter Canyon Overlook. Limited parking. Open all year, but may close unexpectedly for weather.

Difficulty

Moderate. Much of the route is an easy two-track along sidehills. One short section of shelf road is slightly more intimidating. Do NOT drive when wet. Even a slight rain turns trail dangerously slick and gums up tires. When dry, trail is suitable for stock, high-clearance, 4-wheel-drive SUVs and pickup trucks.

It was a pretty mellow trail for the most part with a stock jeep. Found out it comes to a gate around Speer Hunter where you can't pass through. If you don't have a short wheel base you will have to back up for a bit before there is an opening to turn around.
