Trail Overview

Perry Creek is an 8-mile-long ATV trail through the Rio Grande National Forest that is easy/moderate with a few rocky sections. From the south end, it winds through the pine trees and beetle kill on a wide path that is more like an old road. It pops out on Baughman Creek Road for a moment, and goes through a trailhead and pinch point, and then narrows up as it continues north. It's still a wide path with lots of loose rock and embedded rock through the pines. The trail goes past an alpine lake which is a nice place for a break. It flows through open grassy hills and saddles at high elevations, sometimes with rocky stream crossings with embedded boulders and lots of loose rock. The trail crosses a 4-way intersection with Bowers Peak and La Garita Stock Driveway at a saddle above 12,000 feet elevation, and then it descends down to the Perry's Creek Trailhead as it goes north.

Difficulty

This is an intermediate ATV trail because there are several sections that are rockier, with loose rock in the trail. It's a constant climb up for the first 5 miles, and descent down for the last 3 miles, but most of it is gradual with a few steeper spots. The trail doesn't have any major obstacles, just a rocky surface.
