Trail Overview

The Middle Alder ATV trail descends through the Rio Grande National Forest for 5 miles, starting on Viers Creek Road, and ending on Alder Road. It's a fun rocky challenge and a popular area for hunters in the fall. The north end is a wide path through the pine trees and beetle kill. The whole route is pretty rocky. It has loose rock and sections with embedded boulders. It steeply descends over a rocky loose surface and gets even rockier when it gets down by a creek. It parallels the creek with scenic rock walls on your side. It follows the creek drainage all the way south, with a couple of shallow stream crossings. Overall it's more difficult because of the constantly rocky surface, constantly pinging you around.
