Trail Overview

Have fun on this high mountain remote trail to beautiful Adams Lake. Enjoy remote camping at the lake and exploring tons of trails on the way to Blair Mountain. Licensed vehicles will make it to Rifle and Meeker. Open mid-June to mid-November, depending on snow.

Difficulty

Difficult. No major obstacles, but very rocky and steep in places. Snows melt late so expect wet, muddy conditions in spots. Only the most aggressive SUVs with very high clearance should attempt it.

Access Description

Take I-70 to Dotsero, Exit 133. (Westbound traffic must continue another 0.7 mile on frontage road to Colorado River Road.) Head north along the paved Colorado River Road 301, following signs to Burns. At 1.7 miles, turn left on Coffee Pot Road. Continue uphill 27.3 miles to major fork where signs show Deep Lake to right. Turn left on F.S. 601 towards Heart Lake and go another 1.5 miles, where 601 goes left to Adams Lake.
