Wadford Springs Cutoff - FS 2N47

Trail Overview

This route runs parallel to Mono Lake, starting on Forest Service Road 2N43 and ending on Highway 167. The trail offers 360-degree views of all the surrounding mountains and Mono Lake throughout the journey. At 0.75 miles from the southwest entrance, the terrain features deeper sand, and at 1 mile in, the flora changes with lots of larger trees and bushes. The rest of the trail becomes much more sandy, so plan accordingly. At mile 2.5, you drop into a rock-covered wash, and some low-hanging trees could hit taller vehicles.

Difficulty

This trail earns a low difficulty rating with its pumice and sand surface that is one vehicle wide. There are a few low spots that could be a challenge for two-wheel drive vehicles if it's wet, along with some off-camber sections and ruts throughout. The bushes and yellow wildflowers are very overgrown and could give wide vehicles Sierra pinstripes. The deeper sand at 0.75 miles from the southwest entrance could give two-wheel drive vehicles issues. The last half mile on the northeast side has some deep off-camber sections that could cause problems for low-clearance vehicles.
