Trail Overview

This trail features a sand and gravel surface with a 2 to 4 foot berm on each side defining the route. The route runs along a limited-use area where you must stay on designated trails only. The trail crosses numerous small drainage washes, none of which are very deep, making them manageable obstacles, all under 12 inches throughout. The trail is lined with medium-sized desert brush, trees, and seasonal blooming wildflowers, adding vegetation and color. The Southern Pacific Railroad track runs parallel to this trail, providing a navigation landmark. The trail is a little bumpy with some washboards creating a jarring ride. The trail starts at Highway 78 in Glamis, California, crosses Vista Mine Road BLM 651, and ends at BLM 757.

Difficulty

The sand and gravel surface requires attention to traction management. The numerous small drainage washes with bumps under 12 inches entering and exiting create constant minor vertical challenges. The trail, being a little bumpy with some washboards, adds to the jarring ride. The 2 to 4-foot berms help define the route clearly. Four wheel drive and high clearance are recommended for the wash crossings. Respect the limited-use area designation and stay on designated trails only.
