Trail Overview

Freshly reopened after years of closure for restoration, Snow Slide Trail (FS 2N13) is once again welcoming off-road enthusiasts into one of the most scenic corners of the Big Bear area. Tucked away in the San Bernardino National Forest, this trail has quickly reclaimed its reputation as a quiet escape for those seeking big views without the big crowds. Rated as easy and suitable for stock 4x4 vehicles, Snow Slide is the kind of route that lets you relax behind the wheel while still feeling immersed in the backcountry. The road is generally smooth and well-maintained, making it accessible to drivers of all experience levels. What sets the trail apart, however, is the scenery: long, open ridgelines that deliver sweeping views across the San Bernardino Mountains and beyond. On a clear day, the vistas feel as if they stretch all the way to the edge of the world--perfect for those stop-the-vehicle moments where you can't help but pull over and take it all in. Along the way, you'll find several dispersed camping opportunities, many perched on quiet overlooks or tucked among the pines. These spots are ideal for a peaceful overnight stay, offering both solitude and some of the best sunrise and sunset views in the region. Whether you're looking for a day run or a weekend basecamp, Snow Slide has you covered. This is a seasonal route, so be sure to check with the San Bernardino National Forest ranger district for the latest updates before heading out. If you're looking for something a little off the radar, Snow Slide is a true hidden gem. It's a trail where the journey feels unhurried, the views are unforgettable, and the sense of being far from civilization is exactly the point.

You may encounter minor dips, puddles, or uneven sections, but nothing requiring advanced driving skills. The trail is beginner-friendly. This is an ideal trail for someone new to off-roading or for a relaxed scenic drive.
