Trail Overview
This super sandy trail climbs up into the Superstition Mountains, starting on the south side of the mountain and ending on the north side, creating a dramatic traverse through the range. The route cuts across some big open sand dunes and climbs a few hills before slowly winding its way down through the canyon to the bottom. You'll encounter lots of bank turns, some soft sand, and some rocks, creating varied terrain. There are some ruts up to 18 inches scattered throughout and some small rock gardens, adding technical challenges. Sometimes the sand dunes can be deep with actual sand drifts from recent winds making conditions variable and unpredictable. If you're lucky, you'll see the Blue Angels training over the mountain, adding excitement to this scenic route. Four wheel drive, good tires, and airing down are essential for this demanding trail.
