Trail Overview
Pass Spur Road is a scenic and rugged 2.5-mile out-and-back trail that winds through dense Aspen forest, passing a spring-fed pool and a small creek along the way. The trail is primarily dirt with rocks scattered throughout, becoming increasingly rocky and technical as you venture deeper. After exiting the forest, the trail opens into a serene meadow before climbing again into a pine-covered ridge. High-clearance vehicles are highly recommended, especially in the latter sections where rocky climbs and uneven surfaces dominate. The tight trail can leave pinstripes on wider rigs, but the reward is worth it--ending at a breathtaking vista overlooking Topaz Lake and the surrounding mountain landscape, especially stunning in the fall during peak Aspen color.

Difficulty
While much of the early trail is manageable with moderate clearance, the further you go, the more rugged it becomes. Expect progressively larger rocks and multiple rock gardens requiring careful tire placement. The track narrows through dense trees, where wide vehicles will risk paint damage. The final climb to the overlook is rough and bumpy, requiring good articulation and sturdy tires. 4WD is strongly recommended, especially if wet conditions are present.
