Trail Overview
Looking to explore the stunning landscapes of Dog Valley while taking a more adventurous and less-traveled route? This scenic drive is perfect for those who enjoy a bit more challenge and want to avoid the heavily traveled main road. Starting from Long Valley Road, you'll wind through dense forests, past unique rock formations, and year-round creeks, all leading to the always magical Dog Valley Meadow. Be prepared--this route is impassable from winter to late spring due to heavy snow and drifts. Fun Facts About Dog Valley, Rare Flora - Dog Valley is home to two rare plant species: Dog Valley ivesia (found nowhere else in the world!) and Webber's ivesia. Historic Trail - The valley was once part of the Emigrant Trail, a historic route used by travelers journeying from the Truckee Meadows to Truckee. Extend Your Adventure - After soaking in the beauty of the meadow, continue on to the Crystal Peak Mine Loop, where you can explore Crystal Peak Mountain and see what hidden gems you might uncover!
