Trail Overview
This trail starts at the Superstition and Wheeler crossing and heads up toward Superstition Mountain. The surface is soft sand throughout with whoops creating a bouncy, flowing ride. There are plenty of dispersed camping opportunities along this trail and nearby, making it a popular base for exploring the area. After a mile, the trail starts climbing up into the dunes, changing the character significantly. The route heads up the sand dune and through a winding sandy path with banked turns that reward momentum and skilled driving. The climb continues to a steep rock section at the very top, where the terrain dramatically changes from sand to rock. The very top features very deep sand that demands excellent momentum management and maximum traction.

Difficulty
The soft sand with whoops in the lower sections requires four wheel drive, and airing down is essential. The climb up into the dunes demands excellent momentum management and skilled line choice through the winding banked turns. The steep rock section at the top is a serious technical challenge requiring high clearance and skilled driving. The very deep sand at the very top combines with the steep terrain to create a demanding finish that may stop many vehicles. Lockers or traction control systems are beneficial for the top section. Sometimes wind will change the dunes daily, so be alert to adjust.
