Trail Overview
This scenic trail kicks off 10 miles up Highway 89 from the 395 junction. It starts with a few deceptive mud holes that hint at what's ahead--an off-camber track weaving through a narrow meadow filled with sagebrush. As you progress, expect multiple muddy patches that can get deep and slick after rain. The trail then drops into a wider, lower basin surrounded by towering pines, offering a stark contrast in terrain. Keep an eye on the trail's edge--deep ruts caused by erosion can surprise inattentive drivers. Near the bottom, a short rock garden adds a bit of a technical twist to this otherwise mellow run. The trail does lead to other backcountry routes.

Difficulty
This trail doesn't require lockers or a built rig, but it does demand attention and a capable high-clearance vehicle. The muddy sections can get slick and boggy, especially after storms. Some deep side ruts and a few tight turns through the meadows may catch wider vehicles. The small rock garden at the end is passable but adds an extra layer of challenge. A good set of all-terrain tires and 4WD is highly recommended.
