Trail Overview
This trail climbs quickly up onto a ridge line that gives you beautiful views of the surrounding areas. The route is a shelf road with steep drop-offs that demand respect and careful navigation. It can get very windy at the top, so be prepared for gusty conditions on the exposed ridge line. The surface is sandy with a little gravel and is one vehicle wide, leaving no room for error on the shelf sections. The trail is lined with creosote bushes, ocotillo, and teddy bear cacti that frame the route. You'll encounter some ruts and some off-camber sections scattered throughout, and the trail climbs and descends many hills, creating a roller coaster experience along the ridge line. This is part of Anza Borrego Desert State Park and is restricted to highway legal vehicles only.

Difficulty
The shelf road with steep drop-offs is the main challenge, requiring attention and steady nerves on the narrow, one vehicle-wide trail. The off-camber sections on the shelf road are particularly demanding. The ruts add to the difficulty. High winds at the top can affect vehicle stability, especially for taller or lighter rigs. The many hill climbs and descents require momentum management. Highway legal vehicles only.
