Trail Overview

This sandy single-vehicle-wide trail connects Alpers Canyon (Upper 2S42) with Bald Mountain Road via FS2S123, making it a scenic and functional connector route. It winds along the edge of a vast open meadow with sweeping views of the Eastern Sierra and offers occasional glimpses of Bald Mountain in the distance. The trail surface is sandy with moderate ruts and whoops from consistent side-by-side traffic. While mostly mellow, low-clearance vehicles may rub in places due to uneven terrain. The route passes through a stretch of lush pine forest, providing a refreshing contrast to the exposed meadow. Marked with an orange diamond, FS2S123 includes several small dispersed camping opportunities for those looking to linger. It's a peaceful drive with just enough roughness to keep you alert, but still enjoyable for most capable vehicles.

Difficulty

This is an easy-to-moderate trail suitable for stock 4x4 vehicles with decent clearance. The whoops and ruts caused by UTV traffic may pose minor challenges to low-clearance rigs, but high-clearance vehicles should have no trouble. The trail's width, sandy conditions, and the occasional uneven patch require steady attention, especially in taller or fully loaded vehicles. Traction is typically good unless it's wet, at which point the soft sand and meadow-adjacent segments can become slippery. No major obstacles, but be mindful of minor clearance issues and the potential for light pinstriping in narrower tree-lined sections.
