Trail Overview
Cactus Flat - 3N62 is a short trail that begins with a flat, easy drive through the high desert north of Big Bear, offering expansive views and a scenic cruise through scattered Joshua tree groves. The trail features a few dispersed camping turnouts that may support day or overnight use--verify with local agencies before setting up camp. To stay on route, drivers must keep left at the early fork. Beyond this point, the trail narrows and can become overgrown during the spring and summer months;trail-clearing tools are recommended. Boulder formations and desert flora add visual interest along the way. As the route progresses, the terrain becomes moderately technical with elevation shifts, minor rock crawling, and sections of uneven tread. The trail skirts a small cliff before contouring around the side of a mountain. This final stretch includes light off-camber angles due to trail erosion and may pitch vehicles uncomfortably. The trail dead-ends shortly after, and continuing beyond is not advisable for most vehicles. Due to limited shade, exposed geography, and high desert typography, summer travel is not recommended, or approach with caution.

Difficulty
While the trail starts gently, it steadily increases in difficulty with narrowing paths, brush overgrowth, and moderate rock features. Midway sections include short climbs and light technical challenges. The final segment near the mountain is less maintained, featuring uneven surfaces and minor off-camber conditions that require careful line selection. The route is best suited for experienced drivers with high-clearance 4x4 vehicles.
