Trail Overview

This 2.0-mile trail is a smooth and fast single-lane road designed for scenic travel along the ridge, offering expansive views through the open canopy. The roadbed is predominantly composed of well-graded decomposed granite (DG) and packed dirt, making it ideal for covering distance quickly. However, drivers should be mindful of occasional embedded rock clusters that require minor speed reduction for passenger comfort. This route traverses a mixed-severity 2020 Creek Wildfire burn zone, meaning patches of healthy forest alternate with hazardous, exposed snags (visible in photos). This is a great access route to reach the ridge overlooking Huntington Lake and to continue on to a spectacular group campsite at the end of the adjacent Hewn trail spur.

Difficulty

The ease of travel and fast time confirm this road requires no Four Wheel Drive engagement and can be handled by most stock SUVs. The R2 rating is assigned due to the scattered chunks of embedded rock that slow progress and necessitate high clearance to protect the undercarriage and avoid jarring impacts, maximizing comfort and minimizing risk of flat tires.
