EP499 is a trail winding through a small canyon on loose sand with abundant embedded and loose rocks. The route crosses numerous washes with drop-ins and drop-outs throughout, passing through interesting old mining areas with views of the surrounding historical landscape. Part of the trail has some very sharp, bumpy rock sections.
