Trail Overview

Starting in Highland, 1n16 is a fairly easy dirt road with some parts rutted out, but any 4x4 can make it through the trail easily. Many parts of the trail are single-vehicle wide, but there are plenty of places to pass along the way. Coming from Highland, the trail ends on 1n16, giving you the choice to exit towards Highway 330 or the longer part of the trail to Seven Oaks and the 38 with more trails connecting up to Big Bear. This trail gives you great views over the Inland Empire and a consistent climb into the San Bernardino mountains for the start of a quick trip up the mountain, or a long day on the trails enjoying the area.

To enter the trail you gotta make your way through a little community but there are signs that are bright green/yellow, can’t miss them. Once you’re on the trail it’s pretty easy going, there are a lot of ruts some deeper than the rest. Some parts are only wide enough for one vehicle also.

I did not go the entire length today. I have a full size Sierra AT4. The entrance now has a new community and entering was interesting. Google Maps shows Santa Ana Canyon Road as connecting but it is gated. I had to reverse and turn around. Enter thru Mediterra Parkway and you will see neon green signs telling you where the fire road access is. Some spots were sketchy for my truck. It doesn’t have a lot of ground clearance or departure angle. I would say a jeep can easily make it. It is wide enough for my truck. There are a few turn outs. I went in about 3 miles and decided to turn back. I would love to go back just not with this truck unless the roads are leveled out. Some ruts were 18”+ deep.

Dry - plenty wide. Took it out to 1N09. Not much cross traffic for a Sunday.
