Trail Overview

This route starts at the punch bowl via Forest Service Road 1S38 and climbs over 500 feet in just over 1.5 miles, leaving the valley below and ascending into a pine forest. The trail offers views of the Crater Mountain Ridge, Eastern Sierra mountains, including June Mountain, and Mono Lake below throughout the ascent. When you emerge from the forest, you're rewarded with a striking 270-degree view of the Eastern Sierra and Mono Lake, providing one of the most panoramic vistas in the area.

Difficulty

The trail is one vehicle wide, lined with hardy bushes that can add pinstripes to wide vehicles, and some pine trees have low overhanging branches that could hit tall vehicles. It's very sandy and does climb. Good tires are essential.
