Trail Overview

The east end of this trail starts on the forest road 3N63, and it goes west for 1.5 miles, meandering through gradual hills and descents in a pine forest. There are a lot of downed logs that have been cut and are now lining the trail, so you want to watch your pegs on all the downed trees. It winds through a decently wide tree corridor that makes it ideal for newer riders. It has some sharper curves, but is mostly fast and flowy through the trees. There are a couple small logs down across the trail, and riders should always be aware of new log hazards. The forest is really scenic, but the trail is very dusty and dry. There's a caution sign marking a cattle guard at one point. The trail sidehills a little bit as it traverses the hillside, and it has a couple easy switchbacks. At the very west end it splits at the intersection with 16EV262, so you can end on either FS 4N16 or FS 3N63. This trail is seasonally closed 12/16 - 4/14 to motorized use.

Access Description

This trail system in the Stanislaus National Forest can be accessed from either the Deer Creek Staging Area on the west side of the trail system, or from Crandall Campground on the east side of the trail system. The Deer Creek Staging Area is a primitive dirt lot with space for several vehicles and small trailers, accessed via Italian Bar Road. The Crandall OHV Parking and Camping Area has several primitive camp spots with picnic tables. All of the trails are open from April 15 to December 15, but it gets really hot and dry in the summer here, so the best times to visit are spring and fall.
