Trail Overview

This is one of the longer and more difficult trails within the Interface Trail System. The east entrance spurs off of 15EV62, and it starts steeply descending down a deeply rutted path with small loose rocks. Some of the ruts are at least a foot deep, and it side-hills down an exposed hillside lined with small manzanita shrubs. It goes down several tight switchbacks on the exposed hillside, with narrow sections in between. There are a couple of intersections that are easy to miss, as there are rain ruts that look like the trail. There's a very sloughed off slope with embedded rock layers that will be tricky for the average rider. It's off camber and exposed, and drops you down to the bottom of the descent. It climbs back up the next hillside through the manzanitas. Expect roots, sharp turns, narrow segments and a few more climbs and descents throughout the middle portion of the route through similar terrain. There was a big tree down at the intersection with 15EV61 that will be difficult to navigate. The west part of the loop continues to switchback up on a steep grade, with a rocky exposed hillside and some embedded stair steps that are rutted and steep.

Access Description

The Interface OHV Trail System is located in the Stanislaus National Forest near the town of Arnold, California. To get here, go north of Highway 4 towards the community of White Pines and White Pines Lake. Go past the White Pines day use area, and continue onto FS 7N08, which will take you directly to the staging area. This recreation area has ample parking, porta potties, and several primitive camp spots with picnic tables. There are more camp spots and staging areas along FS 5N52. The trails here are open from April 15 - December 15, but it gets very dry and dusty here in the summer, so spring and fall are the best times to visit.
