Trail Overview

Willow Springs Road stands out as one of the best-maintained main arteries in the area, providing a smooth and easily navigable route. This trail accommodates larger vehicles quite comfortably, including motorhomes and campers, especially in sections closest to the southern part of the route where you'll find abundant large dispersed camping sites--perfect for big groups looking to enjoy the outdoors. As you travel further along the trail, it narrows slightly but remains broad enough for oncoming traffic to pass easily. The landscape is dotted with many side trails, offering opportunities for exploration and discovery of even more dispersed campsites and adventurous pathways. Often resembling a highway in its ease of travel, Willow Springs Road provides access to the nearby rest area starting at the southern end of the highway. As you continue north, the surrounding terrain transforms into the beautiful foothills, making for an enjoyable drive into increasingly picturesque scenery. The trail also runs along the east side of Black Mountain, providing stunning vistas as you navigate the area. Important Note: Throughout most of the trail, you can expect cellular service ranging from two to three bars of Verizon LTE, although this may decrease in certain sections. Remember to obtain your Arizona State Land Trust permit before hitting the trail, and be well-prepared for the desert environment by bringing plenty of water and supplies.
