Trail Overview

Trail Ss1103d is a narrow, natural two-track that cuts across open desert toward the base of the mountains. The first mile travels through State Trust Land; a valid permit is required. The route is rocky and bumpy. High-clearance 2WD or 4WD is recommended due to uneven terrain and scattered rocks. Desert creosote and native grasses line the trail, and in spring, the landscape transforms with vibrant wildflowers. California poppies are abundant, creating stunning color against the hillsides. As you continue, the trail approaches a fence line that you'll run parallel to for a stretch. Along this section, you'll see a series of small dams designed to hold water for livestock. Eventually, the trail requires crossing a wash; this crossing is not advisable during or after wet conditions, as water flow and soft sediment can make it impassable.
