Trail Overview
Sols Tricky Washout, named after its significant section in the Sols Wash, is a trail marred with water damage. Steep drop-offs into and out of wash crossings, as well as erosion are the story of most of this trail. Once in the wash, you have deep, soft sand to deal with, as well as a potentially tricky exit strategy. Washes in this area of the Arizona desert can go on for miles, and some of them have fences across them that are unmarked, potentially hidden, or around blind corners. The wash has near-vertical sides of earth roughly 5-6 feet high that have been chewed away by storms, flash floods, and years of monsoon seasons. When you're not in the wash, the trail is one lane, with potential paint damage due to overhanging cacti and other thorny plants that want to hurt you or your precious rig.
