Trail Overview

An enjoyable Jeep trail that circles the non-wilderness portion of the New Water Mountains. This road serves as access to a lot of trails in the area, including many not shown on this website. Quite scenic with views of the mountains all the way around. A strange-looking rock formation up in the hills. There is an abandoned stone mining structure at the Apache Chief Mine. The most interesting part of the trail is the "Hogsback". A fairly long portion of the trail drops off on both sides. Drive carefully.

Rough/Deteriorated
Most of the trail is rocky. 5 to 10 mph at best. A couple of steep climbs with boulders to navigate. Once on top great views in all directions. We started on the south side and came out close to I 10 to the north. Several old and existing mines and old buildings. The full loop start to finish took just over 4 hours (23 miles). Very fun ride!
