Trail Overview

Cinder trails are tiny lava pepples that feel like sand. You can travel cross-country within the boundary of this area, but its recommended to stay on the trail. Follow the signs for the safety of riders and especially children. Repairs are expected at the main entrance from Highway 89 soon.

Difficulty

Moderate. Mostly easy rolling hills with one steep climb to Double Crater. Loose gravelly ash is soft like sand and can quickly overheat engines.

Access Description

Take Highway 89 northeast from Flagstaff Mall 11 miles and turn right at sign for Cinder Hills OHV Area. Drive 6.3 miles on F.S. 545 to start of Road 776 on right. No fee is required to pass through the national monument. Later you will enter through the main entrance direct from Hwy. 89.
