Trail Overview

Black Canyon Trail is 1.2 miles of moderate difficulty ATV trail, full of loose rock and some steep hills. The trail is unmarked and primitive, going through low rolling desert hills, next to giant saguaro cactus and paloverde trees. The trail ranges from a wider two-track to a narrow trail between bushes, ideal for 50-inch vehicles. From the north end, it starts descending down a narrow trail, following a little shelf above a ravine, the trail being slightly off camber, with a drop off to one side. It's semi-steep and rocky with a consistent layer of embedded and loose rock. Expect small, uneven ledges from the embedded rock layers. It's a scenic descent as it rides along a shelf overlooking a canyon. At one point, there was an unmarked split where the trail stays low and goes into a tighter ravine with some bigger rock layers and small ledges. It also splits again near the middle with a section of single-track trail, but you stay right when headed south to stay on the ATV trail. Parts of the trail are more primitive, with overgrown vegetation, and appear lightly trafficked. Overall, it's a really fun trail that will be a decent challenge for most 50-inch vehicles due to the frequent rock layers and consistent climbs and descents.
