Trail Overview

A1 Mountain Road - FS 506 offers a relaxing cruise through the heart of the Coconino National Forest. Recently graded, this scenic dirt road winds through a dense pine forest with cool shade and peaceful surroundings. The trail provides sweeping views of distant mountain ranges along the way, especially in the southern section. While the road starts wide and smooth, it gradually narrows and becomes more rutted as you head north. After rains, the dirt surface can become muddy and slick, so conditions may vary seasonally. Despite its mellow nature, the route maintains a remote feel and is a great way to experience the beauty of northern Arizona.
