Trail Overview

This is a fun and scenic dirt bike trail through the Boulders OHV Area, with a technical rocky wash section. Most of the trail goes through the rolling desert hills, covered in loose dirt, with steep and rutted hill climbs. It has big dips as it crosses several ravines, then drops down into a tight ravine overgrown with scraggly bushes and lined with rock walls, with lots of jagged rock outcroppings that you must ride over. They are like rock waterfalls in the ravine, one of them being a couple-foot-tall ledge. It requires some technical maneuvers as you have to get around big boulders and through rock pinches, sometimes with overgrown bushes blocking your view. You might see wild burros in the ravine. The rest of the trail is similar to the many other single-tracks in the area, climbing up and over the rugged desert mountains with technical hill climbs and descents. Since this trail is partially on Arizona State Trust Land, it requires a recreation permit that you can obtain online.

Access Description

To access the Boulders OHV Area, take North Picacho Wash Road north from the West Carefree Highway. There is a huge staging area a mile up North Picacho Wash Road, with one pit toilet, a couple of picnic tables, and about 20 nice dispersed campsites for big rigs. There's a youth training area as well that is a fenced-off area for young or new riders to practice without cars nearby. This riding area gets very crowded on weekends. Most of the trails are unmarked, so a GPS map is extremely helpful here. Look out for wild burros.
