Trail Overview

This short connector route begins at a fork--right leads toward Batequitos and ultimately the Gulf Coast, while left continues on to intersect with the trail to Agua Verde. Initially smooth and easygoing, the trail soon turns mildly rocky and uneven, though nothing that challenges 2WD vehicles until the northern end. The first stretch offers open desert terrain flanked by towering El Cordon cactus and classic mid-high desert flora. Midway through, travelers will pass a few intriguing stone ruins--faint echoes of an earlier time--just before entering a greener section with low tree tunnels and denser vegetation. As the trail nears its end, a series of shallow silt beds--some nearing a foot deep--pose the only reason this otherwise simple crossover carries a 4WD recommendation. That said, locals frequently navigate it without the aid of 4WD. After the silt, the route ends at a junction: head right for the long run to the Agua Verde Road, or turn left to loop back toward Ciudad Constitucion.

Difficulty

This is not a particularly difficult trail, and most 2WD vehicles with adequate ground clearance should have little trouble. The only reason it carries a 4WD rating is due to three or four silt beds near the end of the route, some of which can be a foot deep or slightly more. While many locals regularly navigate this section in 2WD, having 4WD or the ability to air down your tires is recommended for added confidence and traction.
