FS 2973B, 2301J, 2107LF

Trail Overview

FS 2973B, 2301J, 2107LF is a short but fun section of trail that begins at its western intersection with FS 2973, and navigates to its southern intersection with FR 2107L. This trail has a very sandy base, which can become very soft during periods without consistent rain and with frequent travel. This can greatly increase the fun factor of the trail by adding an extra level of difficulty. Additionally, the sand also makes the trail very smooth. However, areas of the trail that navigate up hills or in and around corners can become susceptible to washboarding. Unlike most two-track trails in the Nicolet National Forest, this trail is mostly wide open prairie, with spots of forest scattered around. There is only one small portion of this trail that is surrounded by trees, located at the northernmost point of the trail. Cell service in this area is acceptable for the most part; however, downloaded maps are never a bad idea since the towers in this area can become crowded from summer tourists, leading to slow service. Most forest roads in this area have some amount of snowmobile trail traffic on them in the winter months. It is best to avoid them when there is snow on the ground.

Difficulty

This trail can be navigated by any level or rider and any rig that has 4x4. 4x4 would only be needed when the trail is dry and soft from vehicle traffic. The trail is wide enough for one vehicle, with several spots being wide enough for vehicles to pass. Small water holes can develop after rain and create washouts along the trail's hillsides.
