Trail Overview

This half of Trail 9 is a steady and gradual descent from the intersection with Trail 4-2. It's easy overall, with small loose rocks, gradual curves, waterbars, banked corners, troughs, ruts, and dips. It drops down to a flatter path that widens up on the forest floor. The trail continues through the forest floor for a bit, curving gradually through the trees. It's a fast trail with no big obstacles, being wide and mostly smooth. It keeps going west on a wider road segment of trail that is even easier, just a flat dirt road with shallow ruts. The road portion takes you out to FS Road 12N79 and the start of the ATV portion of Trail 9.

Access Description

The Rock Creek Trail System is located in the Eldorado National Forest near the town of Georgetown, California. Take Wentworth Springs Road east from the town of Georgetown, and follow the signs for either the Mace Mill Staging Area or the Bald Mountain Staging Area. Both are small and primitive staging areas with space for several vehicles to park and a small trailer turnaround. The third staging area, 5 Corners, is also small and primitive, located by either taking Rock Creek Road or FS 12N72 south of Wentworth Springs Road. The trails are open year-round, but close often during wet conditions, so it is advised to call the Georgetown Ranger District for the status of the trail system: (530) 334-6477. The trails are well-marked and highly maintained, ranging from easy to advanced.
