Trail Overview

This pass is very scenic, with many different ground surfaces to tackle. For more advanced off-roaders starting from the east, you can choose a wide jeep trail or a narrower trail. We used the more advanced narrow trail. On the narrow trail, you can expect two long climbs littered with large boulders & a drainage crevasse in the center of the trail. This first section would be for the very advanced high clearance 4X4 off-roader due to steepness & large boulders till you rejoin the main jeep trail; otherwise, a quad, SXS, & dirt bike are preferable. The main jeep trail to the south is easily passable on High clearance 4X4 & would be rated at a lower skill level than this part of the trail. In the pictures, you will find the different ground surfaces from dirt & loose stones the size of soft balls, to very large & loose gravel on the side of the mountain flat road. The lather is mostly present when the trail meets back to the Jeep trail following the side of the mountain above the tree line. When you get to the center/Top of the pass, you will find 2 open areas that can be used as a campsite & can easily accommodate 10 vehicles. When you drop onto the British Columbia side, you will find a constant descent with Loose large gravel, loose boulder trail to dirt trail, and a few dry rock bed crossings. Keep in mind this is an out-of-cell area; therefore, don't forget to download your map. Due to large snow drift in the early season, usually you can make it up to the top by June on 2 wheels & June 15th on 4 wheels.

Difficulty

On this trail on the Alberta side, due to steep, narrow, loose rocks and washes below the tree line and also due to the British Columbia section this trail has a rating of 5, If you use the jeep trail to the south to replace the first section of this ride below the tree line & only going to the summit & return on the Alberta side the rating would be a 3.
