Trail Overview
This is a well-maintained forest service road that has recently been graded due to logging activity in the area. The road is accessed at 6km up the Powder Creek FSR north of Riondel. Look for the Portman Creek FSR sign on the right side heading north. The FSR gains elevation quickly and comes to an end approximately 11 km up. Along the way, there are breathtaking views of Kootenay Lake and the valley behind. In one spot you can see the town of Kaslo far below. Round trip from the Powder Creek forest service road took about an hour. There is a renowned hiking trailhead at 9.5 km. There is pull-out parking and the trailhead is marked by signs.
