Trail Overview

Gooding Cove Trail is a 6-mile dirt and gravel route that gently winds through a forested area, providing access to the stunning Gooding Cove, a rocky beach cove along the coast. The trail is about 1.5 vehicles wide, allowing for cautious two-way travel. The road surface is somewhat bumpy with scattered potholes, so slow and careful driving is recommended. The trail is lined with tall pine trees, aspens, dense bushes, and seasonal wildflowers, creating a picturesque natural corridor. It passes above Le Mare Lake, offering occasional scenic viewpoints along the way. Wildlife is abundant here, especially black bears and deer, so drivers should be alert and keep speeds low. Dust can become a significant issue on most days, so be mindful of oncoming traffic, including large logging trucks that use the road regularly. At the trail's end, Gooding Cove provides a unique rocky beach experience. However, caution is advised: the beach, while appearing solid, contains many soft spots that can trap vehicles. Off-roading beyond the main cove area is not recommended.
