Trail Overview
Cayuse Main is a beautiful, winding gravel road that climbs almost 1,700 feet through dense forest and rolling hills. Roughly 1.5 vehicles wide, the trail offers a peaceful, scenic experience lined with thick bushes and tall trees, occasionally opening up to reveal sweeping views of the surrounding hills and forested valleys. While the road is generally well-traveled, drivers should remain alert for wildlife -- especially small deer often spotted near the trail edges. Logging trucks also use this route, so caution is advised around blind corners and during work hours. There are a few landslide-prone sections where loose rocks and tree debris have occasionally spilled onto the road. Fallen trees have been partially cleared, but some remain partially in the path -- still passable, but worth slowing down for.

Difficulty
Despite the elevation gain and minor debris, the trail is accessible to most high-clearance vehicles. Drive slowly, stay alert for hazards and trucks, and you'll enjoy a peaceful, scenic climb. There are a couple of steep climbs and downhills with loose rock where caution and speed control are important, particularly for motorcycles.
